Only in America? The Luther burger consists of a bacon cheeseburger, sandwiched between a glazed doughnut rather than a hamburger bun. Yes, you did read that correctly. It is apparently named after the singer Luther Vandross, who is rumored to have favored it as a snack, or possibly even invented it after running out of hamburger buns. There’s no real evidence for this whatsoever but it’s a fun story so I’m rolling with it. A burger with a doughnut sounds unpleasant, but it’s all about the combination of salty and sweet, which really works; think salted caramel, or bacon and maple syrup, for example. In fact, a more accessible version of this sandwich is just the crisp bacon inside the doughnut; the incarnation I would personally choose to eat. How brave are you?
